A) What is considered to be attractive?
B) Hersch, Joni. "Skin color, physical appearance, and perceived discriminatory treatment." (2011). Web 3 Mar 2015.
The second source I chose was an article that used research that described what was more attractive. For instance, african americans who have lighter skin are more attractive, men who are darker toned are more attractive. This article gives different data tables that proves their claim and shows evidence. The author has specific scenarios where he asks people their opinions on the topic. The author also talks about how weight and height play a role in attractiveness. It is talked about that people with lighter skin complexions report less discrimination.
This has me wonder why people with lighter skin tones report less discrimination. I find it confusing then that attractive is considered lighter skin but people go tanning to get darker. I am thinking about why that is and how the two don't go with each other. I agree that people with lighter skin receive less discrimination but I disagree that african american people are considered more attractive with lighter skin. This source leads me to answer my blog post because it answers what is considered to be attractive and it also brings in a new idea of racism.
This source responds to the other source because they both say the same thing. The first source talked about colorism and how beauty is considered with lighter skin. This article pretty much says the same thing except it adds a twist at the end dealing with discrimination. I could put this in conversation by saying they agree with each other. I can't really agree with anyone more but I disagree with both. I feel like people want to become darker to be more attractive and feel better about themselves.
Some new questions it leads me into are how is racism involved in tanning? I will search for sources who give me an answer or talk about racism. Right questions to be asking are about racism. I have answers that light skinned is considered beauty.
