A) What role does Facebook specifically play in eating disorders and body image?
B)Mabe, Annalise G., Jean K. Forney, and Pamela K. Keel. "Do You 'like' My Photo? Face Use Maintains Eating Disorder Risk." Web.a.ebscohost.com. N.p., July 2014. Web. 3 Mar. 2015.
Step 2:
This article was about the relationship of Facebook and eating disorders. Their argument was that there is a positive correlation between the increased time on Facebook and changes in eating behavior. They had two studies. One study was to find the correlation between Facebook use and increased eating pathology. The other study was to find if Facebook causes temporal changes in eating disorder risks. Their conclusion came that technology overall has an impact on eating disorders, but Facebook itself has a minimal, but significant impact on eating disorders. They did say however that increased Facebook times does lead to weight, shape, and state anxiety.
This source changed my thinking because I thought that Facebook would have more of an impact than it really does. I disagree that Facebook has only a minimal impact, I feel like there are other sources out there that have different evidence to show that it has more of an influence. Yes this source definitely led me to answer my question that yes Facebook does have an impact on eating behaviors in young women. I never considered the amount of time someone spends on Facebook to be a factor in this process.
This source agrees with my other source, because they both agree that social media negatively influences young women's body images. I think I agree with my first source more because I think they had a wider range of people, and different experiences that those people had.
This source has led me to wonder why women sit there and purposely look at social media knowing that it's going to affect them negatively? I think my research will turn more into longer articles with more explanations on this problems rather than experiments about it. My questions work together because my first question was an overarching question about social media in general, then I went into a specific site and how that affects women, next I'm going to dive into the people behind the computers and why they do what they do.
