Gross, Benjamin D. "Taking The Ballgame Out To The World: An Analysis Of The World Baseball Classic As A Global Branding Promotional Strategy For Major League Baseball." Journal Of Sport Administration & Supervision 1.1 (2009): 75-95 SPORTDiscuss with Full Text. Web. 10 Mar. 2015
My question is going to be what is the future of the World Baseball Classic going to be? Can it replace Olympic Baseball?

Overall this source talks about the world baseball classic and how it is an up and coming event. Obviously my paper is over the Olympics but I think this will be the future of baseball and the Olympics. They say the World Baseball Classic is a good way to promote Major League Baseball worldwide. The first WBC took place March 2-20th 2006 in various places around the world. In overview the WBC is an international baseball tournament sponsored by Major League Baseball and the Major League Players Union. This is a quote by one of the creators of the WBC "build a platform where the best players in the game could play on behalf of their countries and get baseball better global exposure." The first WBC took place over 18 games and 39 games were played in 7 international locations. 3/4 of a million tickets were sold for this tournament and it was televised by ESPN. They believe the WBC will get baseball on the map GLOBALLY, rather than just nationally here in the United States or baseball rich countries. Also, the USA did not win the first WBC. After reading this source they believe this tournament will be as big of an event as Wimbledon or the FIFA World Cup.
I think this source describes the future of international baseball and the end of baseball in the Olympics. This tournament was planned very well. For example, having tournament locations around the world is good. The Olympics is every 4 years and in one location, whatever country gets lucky enough to host. The WBC gets the tournament going in various locations around the world, some very baseball popular locations and some where baseball stadiums have to be built. This source absolutely leads me to believe this is the future of international baseball instead of Olympic baseball. It makes sense all around, having different locations for those places to make money off of the tournament, tournament takes place before the Major League Baseball season starts, and the top players want to play and represent their countries.
This source is different compared to my other sources. This one promotes the WBC and my other sources researched the history of Olympic baseball and the negatives and positives of Olympic baseball. This source goes a different way, which is replacing Olympic baseball with an international baseball tournament that gets a lot of attention like the Olympics, except it's just baseball.
Does this tournament have any flaws? According to this source there are none but that is going to be my next source I research. I am going to look up the negatives of the World Baseball Classic. I'm going to also look up the results of the tournaments since the first one. I'm going to look up more of the details rather than just the promotional and media side of the WBC.
