Paul Oliver Source 2

Why aren't there more reports of protests for equal pay for women? Could this contentment make my questioning illegitimate?

Alkadry, Mohamad G., and Leslie E. Tower. "Unequal Pay: The Role Of Gender." Public Administration Review 66.6 (2006): 888-898. Business Source Premier. Web. 4 Mar. 2015.

This article is full of statistics. These statistics prove the inequality between men and women in the workplace. The author has subtopics that are the assumed reasons for this inequality. The author gives these reasons and doesn't focus much on the solution. The argument is that women are paid less because of the "glass ceiling," position segregation, agency segregation, and human capital. each subtopic is elaborated on with many statistics and examples.

The article says a reason for the inequalities are that women only work lower paying jobs. Is this because of discrimination or do women really not go for the upper echelon of jobs? If women don't apply for higher paying jobs or if they don't work higher paying jobs that makes it okay that they are paid less. This source doesn't help me when it comes to women working the same job as men. The source also gives examples of legislation that helps the equality between men and women in the work place. If laws are in place how are women still able to be paid less than men? If women don't have the same credentials as men it is logical for them to be paid less but if they do laws should protect their rights. I started off indifferent about men making more than women but I want to find the reason why.

This source doesn't really apply to my first. The first source was mostly about how women are content with lower pay. This article possibly explains their content. If they are settling for lower paying jobs than they have no choice but to be content with their pay. This article gives many reasons why these inequalities exist but they can all be nullified if the reason is that women are okay with lower pay.

Are women really settling for lower paying jobs? Does this explain why they are content? Are women really content? I still have to find an article that confirms their contentment.
