A) How is the relationship between social media and body image different around cultures?

Step 2:
This article is about the differences in body image perspectives over different cultures. The main arguments in this article were the role of culture in body image, the roles of different aspects of social media, and limitations of research on body image that solely focuses on the thin ideal. Out of all of the women in the world who are most conscious about their body image, anglophone countries have more women that are. For African American women, the media affects them less. Women either compare themselves to people within their group, or to people outside of their group. Women who compare themselves to those in their groups have less body image issues than those who don't. The article also dove into why women go on social media to get feedback on their body image issues. The gratification received is different on Facebook than it is from a Pro-ana website. Women who are scrolling through Facebook and see a thin- ideal picture are less likely to have a reaction to it rather than a women going to a specific pro-eating disorder website. This article also briefly touched on the fact that other than the thin ideal there are other body image issues that women around the world have, such as skin tanning or bleaching, teeth whitening, and, although more common with older women, aging.
This source made me want to look more into why women from other countries have different views on their bodies. I agree that Facebook has a different affect than a pro-ana website would have, but I also think that if someone is already prone to those sorts of thoughts a single thin ideal image could trigger them. Yes it does lead me to answer my question because that was research indication why certain cultures have more discrepancies about body image than others.
This source is actually a direct response to my first source. They respond to Perloff's claims about different cultures having different views on body images, by adding more research into their article. This article completely agrees with Perloff's article because it is a response to it, however it dives into more research than his article did. This article doesn't agree with my third one too much because that one more glamorized pro-ana websites, where this article tears them down. I completely agree with this article and I think the research they did is interesting and how different countries have such different views on women's body image.
I want to dive into specific countries more and why these women don't have as many body image issues, and why american women typically have more. My answers that I have so far are that different cultures have different perspectives on body image, and that women purposely seek out websites that tear their confidence down.
