A) How do people feel they need to tan?
B) "Current Versus Ideal Skin Tones and Tanning Behaviors in Caucasian College Women." 62.8 (2014): n. pag. Print.
This article describes a study that asked about tanning. The hypothesis that white college women were dissatisfied with their current skin tone was proven. They became so unhappy with their skin tone that they eventually darkened their skin. This article gave numbers and percentages with people who tanned. They looked at how many times a week, and why they did it. Celebrities with pale skin seemed less attractive rather than the celebrities who were tan seemed more attractive. However not all were dissatisfied with their skin tone, it was found that those who had a relatively light mean skin tone were satisfied.
This source has me thinking about why people felt pale skin was unattractive. It brings new ideas that white women tan more than other racial groups. That could be my next question, do caucasions tan more than any other racial group? I agree that white women are not happy with pale skin, and I do not disagree with this article since it was actually proven. This source leads me to answer my question because it gives examples and actually proves their hypothesis and relates to my question on why they want to tan, to feel satisfied. I did consider all the facts given in this article.
This source responds to my other sources because this source is disagreeing with the other two. The other two sources claimed that beauty was lighter skin tones. However, this article shows a study that lighter skin people are less satisfied than darker skin tone. I agree more with this article because it actually is proven and I see a lot of white women tan rather than other races. I could put this into conversation by stating the other source says beauty is lighter skin tone however this source disagrees saying that people with lighter skin tone are less satisfied.
New questions it has is why are more people who tan white? Is there a racial issue here that lies underneath? If so what is it?
